Spring 2010

Although it may be hard for many of our members to believe, Spring is just around the corner.  And with it, comes the chance to get our boats out of the garage and back on the water where they belong.  Some of us lucky souls, including me, are getting a jump start on the season.  A few of us are heading to the Stock Winter Nationals in Ocoee in March, while others are kicking off the year in Rainbow City, Alabama in April for the Mod Winter Nationals.  Good luck to all those getting an early start to the 2010 racing season.

As all club members are aware, TRORA is in the midst of our Rescue Boat Donation Drive.  We plan to purchase a second rescue boat this Spring and are asking for donations to this worthy cause.  Please send to Treasurer Steve Justice at 7544 Whitemarsh Way, Hudson, Ohio, 44236.  We are also conducting an on-line swap meet on hydroracer.net with all proceeds going toward the Rescue Boat Fund.  Contact Rick Wagner, Sr. at 440-209-1324 if you have items you wish to donate.  Please get your donations in as soon as possible, as we’re looking to purchase the boat by the end of March.  We may also be selling newly designed T-shirts this season to generate revenue as well.

Once we purchase the boat, we’ll have to make some modifications to the club trailer in order to carry it.  The TRORA Work Party is scheduled for May 1st at Jack/Joan Brewster’s in Ravenna, Ohio.  Please plan on attending, as we have quite a bit of work to do.  We may also be looking for extra materials (steel) to aid in this project.  I’ll have more details as we get closer to May.

The club has voted to purchase a second generator this Spring as well.  This will help us in situations where we need two power supplies and it will serve as a backup for our main generator which we often use to power the clock, TV and VCR.

All systems are “Go” for TRORA first weekend of racing this season in Delaware, Ohio, May 15-16.    We will offer sanctioned testing on Friday afternoon at a cost of $20 per driver (to offset ambulance fee).  Delaware State Park is much like the Zanesville/Dillon Lake facility.  It’s a perfect sized lake with large beach area for pits.  Mike Marshall is putting in a tremendous amount of work for this event.  Let’s reward his efforts with a well attended event.

Two weeks later, TRORA will host its annual event at Justus Lake in Franklin, Pennsylvania on May 29-30.  Once again, Joel Wiegel is coordinating one of the finest races sites in the Midwest.  You couldn’t ask for a better site for racing.  I look forward to seeing everyone at our first two events of the 2010 season.
