LAST CHANCE REGATTA
Pre-Race Article

Once again TRORA is proud to host Region 6’s last chance for racing and securing final points.  This race is being held at Justus Lake outside of Franklin, PA, one of the most beautiful race sites in the country.  The lake is well-protected; pits are on a sandy beach, tenting and RV camping and electric hook-ups on site, and motels nearby.

This year we will once again run all stock, all mod, and all j classes.  Something new this year, if time and scheduling allows, some classes may run a third day of racing over the two day weekend.  Classes will be combined at the race committee’s discretion in order to run a fast-paced program and get everyone on the highway as early as possible on Sunday.

Come out and finish your racing season with TRORA

Fall in Western PA is usually a time when the leaves start turning, football games are being played and the last of the pool furniture is being put away.  However, the last weekend in Sept is also when the sleepy town of Franklin, PA gets blasted back awake with the sounds of outboard racing on Justice Lake.  The final leg of the 2008 TRORA Summer Shootout Series made a return to where the season started, at Two Mile Park.  This was the second time that TRORA has opened and closed a season at the same venue and all were looking forward to a great season finale that decide many of the high point championships at the club, region and National levels.  There were visions of awards and the 2-US on many of the racers minds as the fog lifted off the lake Saturday morning.  And for 2008, TRORA added a possible 3rd day of racing for most classes that would either make or break many high point dreams. As the fog lifted off the lake, those in attendance were greeted by above normal temperatures and perfect water for the whole weekend.  Racing started on time, the schedule was run off without any major delays and everyone was done racing by 4:00 on Sunday – perfect time to get everybody home and ready for school in the morning.
The start of the weekend was somber with the remembrance of longtime club member and friend Eric Harkins (7-K) who a month before lost a yearlong battle with cancer.  Eric was a tremendous runabout driver, starting in JR and moving into the 25SSR and CSR classes.  While Eric had hung up his helmet several years ago to pursue a career and family, many in attendance remembered him and there were several 7-K’s decals on boats and helmets.
As the 2008 season comes to a close, the final race in the TRORA Summer Shootout Series was as good as the first leg and with both spring and fall Franklin races, along with Alexandria, KY and Akron, OH all slated for the 2009 season, we all have a lot to look forward to this winter.  Have a great off-season, and TRORA hopes to see everyone back at Franklin in the spring to once again see who is the fastest around the pond.
